My name is Aila Surminski la Porte, I am 25 years old and born in Veghel, where I also have my atelier.

For me, art is much more than creating an object; it is a form of self-expression and connection. Every brushstroke and every piece of wood I shape tells a story and carries a piece of my inner world. Making art feels like a dialogue between my thoughts, feelings and the materials I work with. It is a moment of vulnerability in which I allow myself to get lost in colors, textures and shapes.

My work arises from a deep desire to connect: with myself, with the viewer and with the world around me. It is not only my passion, but also a necessity. Art is my way of understanding, processing and sharing what I feel. Every work of art I create is an invitation to discover, feel and be touched together.

In my work, I like to capture nature and landscapes. It’s not about reproducing it; it has to do with what I feel and what touches me about nature and the landscapes I find myself in. I get inspiration from it for material, technique or the story. I like to take a piece of each of these places with me, to later make pigments in my studio. This includes soil, clay, wood and stone. When I work with these pigments, my mind returns to the place where I collected them. Colors as old as the earth itself. Future Trees collection is made from homemade pigments.
